SYNOPSIS

A l’époque de la Commission Vérité et Réconciliation cette histoire met en lumière ceux qui luttèrent contre l’apartheid de l’intérieur.

Sipho Makhaya travaille à la Bibliothèque Centrale de Port Elisabeth. Il en est le directeur adjoint et espère, après 43 ans de bons et loyaux services, d’humiliations et de souffrances endurées pendant l’apartheid (dont le meurtre de son fils), pouvoir enfin en prendre la direction alors que la politique de la nouvelle Afrique du Sud vise à la promotion des Noirs. Sipho vit seul avec sa fille, Thando, qui suit les débats de la Commission Vérité et Réconciliation dans l’espoir de connaître enfin la vérité sur le meurtre de son frère où elle travaille comme interprète. Ils accueillent la nièce de Sipho qui ramène le corps de son père, héros de la lutte anti-apartheid et mort à Londres où il est resté après l'avènement de la démocratie. C'est l'heure des règlements de comptes... plutôt celle de dire la vérité et de tenter la réconciliation.

At the time of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission this story highlights those who fought against apartheid from within.

Sipho Makhaya works at the Central Library in Port Elizabeth. He is the deputy director and hopes, after 43 years of loyal service, humiliation and suffering endured during apartheid (including the murder of his son), to finally take the lead while politics new South Africa aims to promote blacks. Sipho lives alone with her daughter, Thando, following the proceedings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the hope of finally knowing the truth about the murder of her brother where she works as interpreter. They welcome the niece of Sipho which brings the body of his father, hero of the anti-apartheid struggle and died in London where he stayed after the advent of democracy. It is the hour of reckoning ... rather than to tell the truth and attempt reconciliation.
